... and then I learned how to swim

Some of my fellow Peace Corps Swaziland Volunteers have made a new Welcome Video, which is what we send incoming volunteers to prepare them for this madness. My friend Kris has uploaded it to his YouTube account, and you can view it by clicking here. They thoughtfully separated the video into many separate themed pieces, so you can easily skip the chapter on "single women" but still watch "education" or whatever, or even just "introduction". I tried to watch it, really, but I was too bored. The contents of this blog are mine personally and do not reflect any positions of the U.S. Government or Peace Corps.

I did watch enough to note that Rob's in the education clip, though, so if you want to see my boyfriend just in from the field looking scruffy, that may be the one for you (he starts around 1:30, I think). I'm probably in some of the clips, but I don't know which ones -- if y'all watch any, let me know where I am.

Also, I'm going to Tanzania! Be back in a couple weeks.

Tanzania! There's another SRC alumna who is in the Peace Corps there! ...but maybe you already knew that...

I emailed you privately because I'm hesitant to use people's names on lj, but her blog is here: http://likeasinkingstar.blogspot.com/

You're in the food vid near the end.

Some of the vids were very interesting, especially the one on adjustments. There's some weird disconnects in there.

Overall, though, that was the most chipper bunch of PCVs I've ever seen.

I think they just used only the most chipper footage. But also we probably don't want to scare away the newbies.

Enjoy Tanzania. If you're going to Dar, I'd offer to introduce you to The General, but that'd be hard to do from here.

I passed through Dar briefly and ate delicious Indian food. Who's The General?

The General is a relative of mine who lives in Dar who I met relatively recently. He was a great illustration of how things operate—the tide waits for no man, but when we were stuck in traffic trying to get to the ferry to Zanzibar, he got them to wait for us. He was one of the people who were involved in Tanzania's war against Idi Amin.
